Postage costs for all other countries will be calculated at checkout. We currently ship worldwide, with the exception of the EU. All shipments are sent via Australia Post, with tracking.

LOCAL PICK UP
We offer a Local Pickup service which you can select at checkout. When your order is ready for you to pick up you will receive a email notification.

DYED TO ORDER
Items ordered with dyed-to-order yarn will be held and shipped together once your dyed to order yarn is ready. If you’d like your other items sooner, please place a separate order.

We accept returns within 30 days of delivery of your order.

  • All return items must be in resaleable condition, unless it was faulty or damaged.
  • It must be in its original packaging and unopened.
  • We cannot accept returned yarn if it has been wound from a skein into a ball or cake.

We are pleased to offer a printed copy of Sanna & Co.'s Rollo Double Cowl pattern.

This cowl features a traditional Scandinavian style colourwork pattern and includes instructions for Fingering/4ply and DK/8ply yarn weights.

It is funnel shaped for a better fit, and is a reversible design with colourwork on one side and stripes on the other.

The name Rollo is a nickname for Rovaniemi, which was my home town in Finnish Lapland for ten years.

The design was inspired by the colourwork pattern in Rovaniemi mittens.

SIZING & FIT

Sizes:

  • Top circumference: 54 (54) cm / 21.25 (21)”.
  • Bottom circumference: 62 (63) cm / 24.5 (24.75)”.

NEEDLES

  • Size 1: 3.25 mm / US3 50 cm / 20” circular needle.
  • Size 2: 4.5 mm / US7 50 cm / 20” circular needle.

NOTIONS

  • 5 (4) stitch markers, tapestry needle, crochet hook, waste yarn or stitch holder.

YARN

Size 1
4 ply / fingering weight wool yarn.
220 m / 240 yds of Main colour (MC) and 135 m / 148 yds of Contrast colour (CC).

Size 2
8-ply / light worsted weight wool yarn.
190 m / 208 yds of Main colour (MC) and 90 m / 98 yds of Contrast colour (CC).

Of our yarn bases we would suggest our Lexington Woolies Cormo Fingering/Sport, Polwarth Fingering or Merino Possum Fingering Size 1 cowl and our Lexington Woolies Cormo DK or Merino Possum DK bases for a Size 2 cowl.  More information on our yarn bases can be found here.

GAUGE

  • Measured from a relaxed fabric after blocking.

  • Size 1:  26 sts x 26 rnds to 10 cm / 4” on 3.25 mm / US3 needles in colourwork in the round.  22 sts x 34 rnds to 10 cm / 4” on 3.25 mm / US3 needles in stockinette stitch in the round.
  • Size 2:  20.5 sts x 22 rows to 10 cm / 4” on 4.5 mm / US7 needles in colourwork in the round.  18.5 sts x 24 rows to 10 cm / 4” on 4.5 mm / US7 needles in stockinette stitch in the round.
TECHNIQUES
  • Crochet provisional CO
  • Knitting in the round

  • Basic decreases: k2tog, CDD
  • Basic increase: RLI
  • Grafted BO with kitchener stitch

SKILL LEVEL

Intermediate.

PROCESS

This cowl is knit in the round and in one piece.

The colourwork pattern covers the outer layer of the cowl and includes increases that create the funnel shape.

The striped lining has regular increase rounds to match the funnel shaping of the outer fabric.

As the final step, the tube is folded into itself and joined by grafting stitches form Cast-on and Bind-off edges together.
